Shane Boyle from St Francis said:
“On behalf of St Francis FC we are delighted to be given the opportunity to participate in this years SuperCupNI. This is the clubs first time competing in the junior section of this prestigious tournament”
St Francis became the first non-League of Ireland side to reach an FAI Cup Final in over 50 years before finally losing to Bray Wanderers. Their fairy-tale story, combined with the final moving to Lansdowne Road saw a crowd of over 33,000 witness the historic final.
Coaches Cameron Lynch and Phil Hall are working closely with the team on practice games, set pieces and shape to have the team fully prepared for when the tournament starts in July.
As our season has finished our squad are training very hard on fitness with a fitness program put in place by Mick Healy to work on strength and condition.
We are really looking forward to the games ahead and interacting with the other players/coaches from different countries. It will be a brilliant experience for our players and an excellent opportunity for them to showcase their talent.
We went away on a trip to Liverpool 6 months ago where we got to play 2 games against UK opposition and experience some coaching from both Liverpool and Everton academy coaches. It was a great team bonding experience for the kids and a first trip for them away from their parents, so going to the SuperCUP NI should be another brilliant experience for them in their development.
St Francis would like to wish all the officials, volunteers and organisers a brilliant week.
