Newly crowned Women’s FA Cup winners Manchester United will make their debut in the girls’ section of SuperCupNI 2024.
The Old Trafford side have been long term supporters of the tournament, with their male academy one of the most successful sides in the history of the tournament. The recently crowned FA Cup winners are joined by fellow Premier League sides Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier section, both of whom are also making their bow in the girls’ section.
Last year’s winners, Northern Ireland have once again confirmed their involvement in the Premier section and they are joined by American sides Surf Select, USSSA and League of Ireland outfits Shelbourne FC and Galway United.
Tournament chairperson Victor Leonard said there is no doubt that the standards at the girls’ tournament are improving year after year.
“Our line-up for the 2024 tournament is without doubt the strongest we have assembled since we launched the girls’ section.
“We have secured three high profile Premier League academies, and this will provide some stern challenges for the NI national team and our visitors from America and the Republic of Ireland.
“There were some fantastic crowds across Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council last summer and I have no doubt local football fans will be watching some of the stars of tomorrow later on this summer.”
The highly competitive Junior section is also back this summer, with some of Northern Ireland’s very best facing teams from the Republic of Ireland and America.
Last year’s winners Surf Select are back once again and they are joined by fellow American sides USSSA, Northeast Rush and FC America. 2023 runners-up Linfield will hope to go one step further this summer and they are joined by fellow NIFL Premiership sides Larne FC and Crusaders. Dubliners Shelbourne will make their debut at the Junior U14 section this summer and the ambitious Tolka Park based outfit will hope to make their mark this summer.
The draw for the 2024 girls’ section takes place at Mossley Mill in Newtownabbey on Wednesday 22nd May with proceedings getting underway at 7.30pm. The draw will be streamed live via the SuperCupNI Facebook page.
The 2024 tournament will take place from 21st to 26th July, with the traditional parade and opening ceremony kicking off proceedings on 21st July and the tournament will close with finals day on Friday 26th July.
