The Northern Ireland Cup has raised £1,000 for Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice by holding a collection during the international youth football tournament’s finals night at Ballymena Showgrounds in the summer.

Commenting on the generous donation, Chairman Victor Leonard said: “We are grateful for the generosity of our supporters who turned out in record numbers to watch our three finals. They weren’t afraid to dig deep to help us support a charity that continues to provide tremendous care for young people with life limiting illnesses and their families.”

Community Fundraising Manager, Noreen Kennedy, who welcomed members of the committee and players to the Children’s Hospice, said: “I am delighted to receive this donation on behalf of the Children’s Hospice and sincerely thank Victor, his organising committee and the fabulous football supporters who gave so willingly at the finals event.

“The Children’s Hospice provides respite and end of life care to life-limited children living across Northern Ireland. Donations from organisations and individuals make it possible for us to continue providing specialist nursing care at the Hospice and at home, along with practical, emotional and bereavement support for their families. £100 pays for one hour of vital nursing care and therapies, so this huge donation will enable us to provide additional much needed care to local children who have a life-limiting condition. As a community based service depending on the support of the local community, we are delighted to receive this donation.”

Each year Children’s Hospice has to raise £2.5million from voluntary donations. This would not be possible without the support of the local community and schools.
