Match Report: Co Down v Intercontinental FA

County Down 2
Intercontinental FA 1

After a defeat for both sides yesterday, County Down and Intercontinental FA looked to play for 3rd and 4th place in the Boys Premier Section. The first real chance fell to County Down’s Cal Weatherup when he was played through by Scott MacLeod only to be denied by Owen Martin who was between the sticks for Intercontinental.

A few moments later, the deadlock was broken. Weatherup squared the ball into the 6 yard box area and unfortunately for Cesar Miranda, his foot tapped the ball into the back of his own net. Great link-up play followed between Daire Trainor and Jack Faloona, but this attack was soon stopped by Owen Fadden after Trainor’s shot.

Midway though the half, Lucas Quercia fouled Stephen Kelly inside the box and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Kelly stepped up but a strong save from Martin denied County Down a second.

Just before the break Trainor spotted the run of Weatherup who hammered the ball past Inter FA’S number 1, to send them into a two goal lead.

Weatherup could’ve had a second, the substituted Matthew Droggitis in the Inter FA net was switched on and managed to stretch low to palm the ball out of play.

Towards the end of the half the men in white pushed forward to get something from the game. After a fantastic piece of skill shown from Luca Toro the ball was put behind for a corner. The in-swinger met a scramble in the box until Kai Myles eventually got his foot on it to slot it home past Milo Beimers.

Full time at Parker Avenue, County Down take the win and both teams should be very proud of their SuperCup journey!
