Junior Section: Colina 0-4 Cherry Orchard

The Irish lads performed a show-stopper today in Parker Avenue, seeing Colina off at 4 goals to 0.

Nugent supplied the game with an opener, with a bullet of a strike from close range to push Cherry Orchard ahead early on, and Cherry Orchard’s Dezu had a fine chance soon after but was unfortunate to send it over the bar.  An impressive Nugent found Dezu once more who again found himself unlucky around the box.

The first opportunity arose for Colina following a lovely ball in from Carvajal, but was gathered by the keeper.  Colina’s number 7 Alvarado shone again today, skipping past the opposition and chipping the ball to Zencovich, alongside collaborating with Carvajal to valiantly attempt to regain possession.

However, an excellent Cherry Orchard side were to further their lead, a shot from Farrell was unfortunate to drift wide and it was the goal superstar of the game, O’Reilly, who rocketed his first of the game past the Colina keeper to double Cherry Orchard’s advantage.

Despite rigorous and defiant attempts by Alvarado to secure a goal, he unfortunately could only find the keeper and send a long shot just over the bar.

The lead was consolidated by half time, when Madden read a corner incredibly well and provided a superb third finish for Cherry Orchard leading up to the break.

Despite Zencovich doing well to clear threat and Carvajal in pole position to read the incoming ball, a sublime O’Reilly was next to rack up his second goal of the game.

A more settled and confident Colina side in the form of Suarez doing well to retain possession and show his skill around the box and Calderon solid in defense, worked hard to put their stamp on the game, but it wasn’t to be for the Chileans and the final chance of the game was an interception from Mahon to Farrell who was unfortunate to be ruled offside.

The exquisite performance from the Irishmen was to be the ultimate decider in today’s 4-0 ending.
