Following on from the success of the SuperCupNI 2023, the organisers of the world-renowned youth tournament have opened entry applications for the male age groups for 2024.
The tournament will take place between 21st July and 26th July and tournament chairperson Victor Leonard admitted there has already been significant interest ahead of next summer.
“2023 was one of the most successful tournaments in recent years and we were able to attract some of the world’s best to our shores for what was our 40th anniversary tournament.
“Over the last number of weeks, we have been speaking to the teams that competed in July and asking for feedback, which is crucial to us as we look to develop the tournament.
“We have also received a number of enquiries from high quality teams from across the world, all of whom are keen to secure their place for the 2024 tournament!”
Last summer, the tournament attracted significant crowds and on the field of play the male section was highly competitive with Glasgow Celtic triumphing at the tournament for the first time in the Minor section. In the Junior section, West Ham United were once again on the honours board and in the Premier section, County Londonderry created history by securing their first ever win at the competition.
The male section in 2024 will consist of three age groups, the Minor section (U13), for players born on or after 1st January 2011, the Junior section (U14), for players born on or after 1st January 2010 and the Premier section (U16), for players born on or after 1st January 2008.
Each of the sections will consist of 16 teams and in the Premier and Junior section, Northern Ireland representation is through the county structure and in the minor section, NI teams must be club sides and play in a recognised league.
In the likelihood that the age groups are oversubscribed the organisers have implemented the following criteria, geographical location, their record of achievement in their respective league/competition, their previous performances at the tournament and the organisers may seek references from various trusted football sources to ensure they will provide strong competition to their relevant section.
Further information on the 2024 Girls Tournament will be published in the coming weeks.
