Manchester United concluded their SuperCupNI campaign with a 2-1 win over a resolute Linfield FC at Dixon Park in Ballyclare.

The Old Trafford youngsters were certainly made to work for their victory as Linfield pushed them all the way in an entertaining clash.

United started strongest with Ashton Missin making in roads down the right hand side. Linfield took time to settle and they had a shot deflected wide after their first foray into the United box.

Jaden Jones was a strong influence for United in the centre of the park and he took the game by the scruff of the neck as he darted past a Linfield tackle and fired a left footed shot beyond the reaches of Jack Wilkins with 24 minutes on the clock.

Linfield to their credit responded superbly and within 4 minutes they were level and a long pass down the centre of the pitch took a wicked bounce beyond United goalkeeper Thomas Myles and Leon Boyd was left to tuck the ball into an empty net.

United looked to react positively to conceding their first goal of the week and Tomas Jones stole the ball off the toe of a Linfield defender and Ethan Weatley fired wide. The Blues were next to go close with William Francey whipping a dangerous ball in from a short corner but Myles confidently claimed and the two sides went in at the break all square.

The Old Trafford side came flying out of the blocks in the second half and Reece Munro flashed a header wide from a short corner. Jack Moorhouse was next to test Wilkins in the Linfield goal and his well struck free kick was superbly saved by Wilkins.

Linfield were growing into the second half and the strong running of Jack Hastings was causing United problems and with 55 minutes on the clock he fired wide from the edge of the box.

Linfield were knocking the ball about with increasing confidence but with 64 minutes on the clock United countered and Shea Lacey clipped a great ball to the back post and Nehemiah Oriola squeezed the ball into the corner at the back post.

The Windsor Park youngsters committed a few more bodies forward but United stood firm and in the end they held on to finish their mini tour undefeated.

In the penalty shoot out that followed Linfield were successful with all five kicks after United had their first penalty saved by Marcus Thompson.
