Newcastle Utd v Tyrone – Premier Section Match Report

Jul 29, 2015 | Premier Section

Scroggy Road hosted a glamorous fixture fixture for County Tyrone against English Premier League opposition Newcastle United.

It was the Toon who had the first chance as Oliver Long headed over a corner from Lewis McNall. County Tyrone were limiting Newcastle from having any real chances on goal until the nineteenth minute as Kieran Aplin charged through, but before he shot he was superbly tackled by Dale Robinson at the heart of County Tyrone’s defence .

County Tyrone’s first chance arrived on twenty four minutes when Rhys Campbell crossed into the box for Davy Clements but he was well blocked by Benjamin Kitchen.

Newcastle took the lead on twenty eight minutes through Ben Pollock as he smashed the ball past Rory Donaghy, leaving the County Tyrone keeper with no chance of saving it.

It was the Magpies who  started to take control, adding their second from a corner as Brandon Williams thumped a header into the roof of the net. Two then became three in very quick succession as Owen Gallagher scored a real smashing effort, the ball flying into the net on the stroke of halftime.

Halftime
Newcastle United 3-0 County Tyrone

County Tyrone had the first chance of the second half when Ethan Burns headed over the bar after a whipped in Adam McRea free-kick. Only a great save by Donaghy  stopped the Geordies going further ahead as he denied his namesake Shane Donaghy.

Tyrone just couldn’t contain the pace and power of the premier league side and Donaghy denied them once again, making an outstanding diving save from McNall’s shot .

As the sun beamed down on the pitch, the game died down with not many chances being created. However Newcastle did go four ahead when a nice piece of trickery in the box by Lewis McNall saw him turn and shoot low into the net, giving Donaghy no chance of saving .

This was how the game was to finish – a comprehensive win for Newcastle but there were plenty of positives for County Tyrone to take from the game.
