Liverpool v Co Antrim – Junior Section Match Report

Jul 31, 2015 | Junior Section

In today’s 3rd and 4th place play-off, we watched a dominant Liverpool side who had clearly rallied from their harrowing defeat in last night’s semi-finals to deliver a 3-0 win over the Co.Antrim side.

A superb display by Glatzel and Turner, alongside a solid Williams and McCauley led to an early first goal for the Scouse side, when the outstanding Glatzel chipped a stunning shot into the back of the net to initiate a solid performance from the Liverpool side.

A hard working Shannon for Co.Antrim did well early in the first half to maintain possession, and their solid Caolan Boyd Munce skipped past the Liverpool defence in a determined display.  Antrim’s first real threat materialised in the first half when O’Neill and Galbraith played well down towards McMullan whose chance spiralled over the crossbar.

A second goal by the hat-trick hero Glatzel was pummelled in following a free-kick by Collings, and the Liverpool side were 2-0 up.

Antrim fought valiantly, with a particularly strong effort from Boyd Munce, but a third goal rattled into the net when Pither’s effort looked certain to drift past the post and the marvellous Glatzel crept in to drive the ball back into goal to nail his hat-trick.

The second half ended with a controversial sending off for the Liverpool side, with an array of very confused management and spectators watching on as the young Scousers were reduced to 10 men.

The second half boasted an impressive display of a solid 10-men Liverpool who refused to concede a goal, and who kept the Co.Antrim side out of goal from start to finish.  James Berry did well to sit back and defend, and whilst Harry Robinson’s free-kick was threatening, the keeper was onto it and the damage was well and truly done.  It was Liverpool and their star player Glatzel who claimed 3rd place.
