County Down Vs Brentford – Junior section match report

Jul 27, 2015 | Junior Section

County Down met Brentford at Cloghwater Road today in the Milk Cup Junior Section, but it was County Down who prevailed, with a comfortable four to nil victory.

During the first half, it looked like both sides would be evenly matched, with quick exchanges of possession, and pressure, however the breakthrough came for Down mid-week through the half. Leo Brown won the ball well on the wing, before holding off his man to provide a pass to Andrew Gordon, who then passed to Alex McllMail, who scored with ease. Brentford pressed for an equaliser, and nearly got one when the excellent Carlo Poveda hit the post with a great freekick.

The second half however, was a much different story. Brentford’s pursuit of an equalise cost them dearly as County Down Countered, Lee Baillie won the ball, then found Leo Brown with a pass, which the latter then put past Brentford goalkeeper Marco Tavares. The situation then became increasingly worse for Brentford, when shortly after, County Down Captain, Jack Chambers weaved his way into the box, and curled a strike into the net; a comeback, seemed even more distant. A defensive error for Brentford resulted in County Down’s Fourth goal, which Tom Mathieson provided, from outside the box. This proved to be the killer goal, as as Brentford failed to respond. A good win for County Down who looked sharp today.
