County Armagh v GPS FC Bayern – Junior Section Match Report

Jul 30, 2015 | Junior Section

Today’s Junior Section game between Armagh and GPS FC Bayern was brimming with excitement from start to finish.

We didn’t have to wait long for the first goal in Anderson Park, when Oisin Smyth slotted the ball into the corner of the net with ease to gain Co.Armagh an early lead.

FC Bayern’s excellent Gavin Kilkenny and Jonathan Rodrigues teamed up seamlessly, but were unable to find a way past the Armagh keeper Tyler Boyce.

Deep into the first half, GPS Bayern were awarded a penalty, taken and missed unfortunately by Luke Nolan when it sidled past the post.

Armagh’s excellent Robbie McAteer and Alberto Balde Almanzar did well to chase the ball and maintain possession, whilst Daniel McKeown performed great defensively, and despite a ball sent wide by Rosales the first half ended with a dominant Armagh team maintaining their lead.

At the beginning of the second half a super ball from Rodrigues closed in on the far corner of the post, but Armagh’s competent keeper got his hands on it just before the American side could equalise.

Westadt proved the hero for FC Bayern, sending in a thrilling equaliser in the midst of the second half, meaning we were treated to a penalty shoot-out to finish off the fixture in Anderson Park. GPS FC Bayern came out on top 5-4 and claimed the win, and a place in the final.
