Premier Section: Club America 1-0 KV Mechelen

Club America took on Belguim side KV Mechelen at Castlerock. Club America started the brighter of the sides, as Leyva Diego got into a good position but his shot was well saved by Jelle De Schoenmaken in the Mechelen goal.

Mechelan’s first chance came on seven minutes, as Maxime Godey broke free of the tackles before thumping his effort over the bar.  The game was going from end to end as Club America had another chance when Diego was played in at the back-post, however he could only scuff his shot when he really should have scored. 

On the stroke of half-time Mechelen came closest to breaking the deadlock when Simon Vereek was denied by the woodwork after he met a pinpoint cross from Lucas Verhaeghe.  

Club America started the second half the livelier as Montoya Oswaldo fired wide of the target from eight yards out . It was all one way traffic at this point, with Club America pressuring for the opener as Perez Raul’s free-kick was well saved by De Schoenmaken. 

Club America carved out another chance as Gonzelez Hector was well tackled before and he had another effort with seven minutes remaining.

Mechelan were reduced to ten men as Denzel Jubitana received his second yellow card for a clumsy tackle. Club America capitalized on their man advantage, taking the lead when Miguel Carlos scored a real stunner, an overhead kick from range the ball sailing over the keeper and into the net. 

With two minutes remaining Club America had a great chance to seal the win as Alvardo Alejandro was played through on goal, however his stinging shot was well saved by the keeper.  This was the final action of the match as the Mexican side ran out victors in a tight game.
