A hat-trick from Grace Guest got Northern Ireland’s Girls’ Premier section campaign off to the perfect start as they swept aside Chicago City running out 5-0 winners.

The home side hit the ground running inside five minutes at Dixon Park as Sara Devaney kept her cool after being put through on goal to slot home at the near post to give them an early lead.

It got even better for Northern Ireland minutes later when Guest found the net from distance much to the delight of the fans.


Danielle McDowell-Tuffey’s side continued to dominate large spells of the first half and should have extended their lead before the break after they were awarded a penalty, but Sasha Cowan fired her spot kick wide of the target.

Four minutes into the second half Northern Ireland did grab a third as Guest rounded off a good move with a close range finish.
Three minutes later Guest completed her hat-trick to all but secure the points for Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland continued to press for goals with Abigail Fitzsimmons heading over from close range midway through the half.
A fifth goal arrived with 10 minutes to go as defender Autumn Edgar applied the finish.

Manchester United v IL Heming 1

Liverpool recorded a 3-0 win over Desert Empire Surf at Monkstown, while Manchester United defeated IL Heming 4-1 at Chimney Corner.

Shamrock Rovers also made an impressive start, with Lara Dallaghan scoring a hat-trick in a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Aston Villa at Rathcoole.

In the Girls’ Junior competition, Surf Select were the biggest winners of the day, defeating Cliftonville 4-0 at Chimney Corner.

Crusaders were beaten 3-0 by Peamount United, while Manchester United opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Linfield at Dixon Park.

Glentoran and Kilmarnock shared the points after playing out a goalless draw at The Diamond.
