The first half was a fairly non eventful affair with neither side having a meaningful shot on goal until 15 minutes had elapsed on the clock. Vendee forward Arnoud Baron found space in the box but his effort from around 12 yards flew just wide of the target. Man United responded with a fierce free kick from Demetri Mitchell which rattled the crossbar with venom as the game finally came to life. United had a late shout for a penalty turned down on the stroke of half time, Ogochukwu Obi went down under a challenge in the box but the referee waved play on much to his annoyance.
Obi duly recovered to force a good stop from Vendee goalkeeper Maxime Telliet as the first half ended goalless.
Vendee had the upper hand in the early stages of the second half with both Armory Geofritt and Francois Girard going close but failing to hit the target. On 56 minutes United made the French side pay for their profligacy in front of goal when Cameron Borthwick-Jackson nodded home after finding himself unmarked in the box. Vendee’s next sight of goal came with 68 minutes on the clock, striker Pierre Durand’s 20 yard free kick found the target but failed to beat the impressive Dean Henderson in the United goal.
In the end United held on comfortably to add another Milk Cup success to their illustrious history of honours.
