Ghana giants Right To Dream have certainly woken up to the SuperCupNI experience in Northern Ireland.

The African Academy will go for a fourth successive crown at this summer’s international youth football tournament.

Confirming their entry in the Premier competition where they will defend the title, Academy technical director Gareth Henderby said: “The SuperCupNI is a very special event for the boys. Several have been to Northern Ireland for it before and they love the experience.

“We are looking forward to renewing friendships in addition to extending the tournament experience for our players.”

The Right to Dream objective is to develop high-performance athletes, capable of building successful careers as professional footballers at an elite level.

With a focus on education and developing character, graduates can also become influential role models who will use their profile as players to inspire, create and lead positive change in the world.

R2D’s elite coaching facilities and staff enable players to compete at international tournaments alongside the very best academies in world football.

SuperCupNI chairman Victor Leonard said: “Right to Dream is recognised as one of the best academies in the world, winning numerous top youth football tournaments including the Nike Premier Cup, Sweden’s impressive Gothia Cup and our own event at two age levels.

“The high level of skill and the wonderful sense of enjoyment the boys radiate has been infectious with many people who attend our tournament.”

Last year R2D beat Mexico’s Club America in the Premier final and several of the players in that squad had previously been involved in Northern Ireland when the Academy won back-to-back Junior titles, defeating Southampton in 2015 and County Londonderry the following year.

Meanwhile, Club America have also confirmed their return for July.

In addition, Brazil’s Osasco are coming back to launch another attempt to emulate the achievements of Corinthians, Desportivo, Fluminense and Vitoria who have all been winners at the tournament over the years.

A newcomer in 2018, Chile’s Sky Blue dragons, Iquique, will also feature in the Premier competition.

The tournament, which also features 12 teams in a mini section for under-13s, begins on Monday, July 23, to Friday, July 27.

A colourful parade of competing teams takes place through Coleraine town centre on Sunday, July 22, from 7pmwith a welcome ceremony at the town’s Showgrounds stadium.
