Vendee vs O’Higgins – Premier section match report

Jul 27, 2015 | Premier Section | 0 comments

Chilean side O’Higgins narrowly beat Vendee 1-0 at a rain-soaked Parker Avenue in Portrush, the solitary goal coming from the impressive Jhon Alejandro Jorquera.

Both sides went at each other from the off and it didn’t take long for O’Higgins to open the scoring. Jorquera was sent through on goal and he produced a finish of the highest quality, with a deft chip over the advancing goalkeeper. There were to be no further goals but the game continued to excite.

The only real chances of note in the rest of the first half went to the Chileans. Matias Ignacio Sepulveda put a free-kick over the bar, and David Andrés Salazar had a decent opportunity to extend the lead but his header failed to trouble Vendee keeper Benjamin Lelievre.

Vendee knew they had to change things around to get a result and made three substitutions at half-time. Jorquera’s header was deflected wide and, from the resulting corner, Diego Abraham Gonzalez headed against the post. The in-form Jorquera also nearly lobbed the keeper when the ball was played over the top. Vendee had a great chance to equalise but Quentin Davy shot straight at the keeper when he should have done better. The sending-off of Vendee captain Killian Beranger rubbed salt into the wounds for the French, his mistimed tackle mirroring the frustration displayed by his manager on the sidelines.
