Sheffield United claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara in a close Junior Section SuperCupNI match at Clough in Ballymena.

It was the Blades who started the better as Ryan Viggars played in Javelle Clarke before his effort was well saved by Chivas captain Gabriel Martinez.

Ever Corona then thought he had put Chivas ahead on 7 minutes when he cracked a low effort goal wards before Kurtis England in the Blades goal tipped away his shot.

John Pemberton’ s side thought they had taken the lead as James Oliver played a defence splitting pass to Brandon Holt before his effort was saved by Martinez.

The Mexican side were playing some fantastic football when Carlos Arce skipped the Sheffield United challenges before seeing his effort sail just wide of the upright.

Eduardo Garcia was next to try his luck as he hit a powerful effort from twenty-five yards out only to see England tip the ball over the crossbar. On 24 minutes, the Young Blades thought they had broken the deadlock when Bailey Conway played a low cross for Frankie Maguire but he could only put his shot wide of the target when he really should have scored.

Maguire then was involved in the next talking point of the game as he had a superb opening on 27 minutes as he latched onto a Conway cross before he saw his header drift just over the crossbar.

On the stroke of halftime Chivas were inches away from taking the lead as Dylan Guajardo beat the offside trap before his shot hit the side netting.

Sheffield United started the second half the better side as Tristin Skerritt crossed for Angelo Capello from the right before he chipped the ball over the crossbar.

51 minutes had passed before the next opportunity when Capello weaved his way into the box before seeing his effort blocked by Hector Gonzalez. England was then once again called into action as he made what can only be described as a world class save to deny Corona after he played in Joseph Darian from the right.

However with time running out the Blades grabbed their goal when Skerritt got onto the end of a terrific cross from Kyron Gordon after he had skipped the Chivas challenges. Martinez was then called into action once again as he made a sublime stop as he tipped away a fierce Tyler Foster drive from just outside the box.

The Blades kitted out in Black shirts could have had their second when Skerritt linked up with Conway before the latter hit a low effort as sweet as a nut before the ball was tipped onto the post by Martinez.

In the final minute, the Mexican side came close to an equaliser when Guajardo hit a low effort across the face of goal before Harrision Foulstone slid the ball away from goal to seal the victory.
